Adding Icons to your Home Screen

When adding icons directly from within Hermit, Android OS unfortunately adds unnecessary Hermit branding in the bottom right corner. We don’t like it either, since it takes away from the Web Apps experience, but we have no choice, it is Android adding this, not our choice.

For a better-looking icon, do the following steps. It’s the only way that Android will let you have home screen icons without any branding from the app they come from.

Touch-and-Hold

  1. After adding a Lite App in Hermit, go back to your home screen.
  2. Touch an empty area and hold it (long-click).
  3. Press the “Widgets” button to add a new widget.
  4. Scroll down and pick “Hermit → Create a Lite App” from that list.
  5. From the list that appears, pick the Lite App you want to create a Lite App for.
  6. Boom, good-looking icon on your home screen!

Automatic Add

If you don’t want to follow the steps above, you can do it within one click, but note that Android OS will add a badge with the Hermit icon in the bottom right corner, there is nothing we can do about it.

Hermit follows the Android API correctly, and if Automatic Add does not work on your phone, please contact the developer of your launcher app and report this bug.
